To address the growing need for children’s sports medicine in Central Florida, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children provides comprehensive services through its Pediatric Sports Medicine Faculty Practice. The practice uses a multidisciplinary approach to treatment, rehabilitation, education and prevention with the goal of providing care for and prevention of athletic injuries in children, without concern for ability to pay.

Our team of specialists represents many comprehensive fields, including:

  • Community Outreach Programs
  • Physical Therapy Athletic Training
  • Adolescent Medicine
  • Research & Education

The practice uses an integrated  multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, education and prevention of injuries in active kids.  Our goal is to prevent as many injuries as possible through education of coaches, parents and young athletes while providing world class medical care when it’s needed most.

Common Injuries

Because their bodies are growing, children require different coaching, conditioning and medical care than more mature athletes. Uneven growth areas in children leave young athletes more susceptible to injury. And when children focus on just one sport, they often incur injuries caused by excessive, repetitive stress.

Diagnosis and Rehabilitation

Our Pediatric Sports Medicine Faculty Practice features onsite access to a leading edge MRI and 64-slice CT scanner, providing immediate diagnosis for patients. After diagnosis and treatment, our specialists are able to monitor and guide young athletes to rehabilitation through in-house physical therapy.

Prevention and Education

Prevention of injuries, through the most scientific, cutting edge training techniques, is the main focus of our sports medicine staff. With specialized knowledge and understanding of the unique nature of a growing child, we promote and teach the best ‘Safe Play’ habits to young athletes, which are designed to prevent sports injuries in children and teens.

The Pediatric Sports Medicine Center is under the direction of Jay Albright, MD, who is one of 10 physicians in the country with full fellowships in both pediatric orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine.
